Kedah



                                      

Kedah located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. Kedah borders the state of Perlis and shares an international boundary with the Songkhla and Yala provinces of Thailand to the north. It also borders the state of Perak to the south and Penang to the southwest.

The capital of Kedah is Alor Setar. Other major towns include Sungai Petani and Kulim. Located in the offshore island of Langkawi is a well-known tourist destination of Kedah. In addition, Kedah is considered the “rice bowl” of Malaysia, accounting for one third of Malaysia’s total production of rice.


Population and Area

Kedah covers a total area of 9,426 square kilometers. Population of 1,966,900 (which is derived from the 2010 survey data). Mainly residents of 75.5% Malays, Chinese 13%, Indians 6.6%, while expatriates accounted for 1.8%.

1. Langkawi
Langkawi located about 112 kilometers north from Penang, the administrative of Langkawi is under Kedah, and its geographic location close to Thailand. Langkawi is formed by the 104 tropical islands. The clean water be the attractive point to many foreign tourists. These popular water sports included snorkeling, speed boats, drag parachute, water skiing, boating, windsurfing, etc. Clean white beaches, clear blue water with the sun, make it as a good place for visitors to relax.

2. Underwater World Aquarium
Underwater World located at Pantai Cenang, which display a variety of large and small marine guests, a large species of sharks, whale sharks, turtles and Qinghai; Other were includes the Sea Wolf, clown fish, hermit crabs, and electric eel, etc., the species of fish are more than five thousands. There is a long 15 meters of the "tunnel", which you can take this opportunity, get close with over than one hundred of sharks and Pu. You also can see a lot of seaweed , shells and fossils in underwater gardens.


Transportation

Visitors can easily come to the capital of Kedah - Alor Star by buses, trains, aircraft or boats. The North-South Expressway across the state of Kedah was shorten the distance between Kuala Lumpur and Alor Star.

•Flight
Visitors can travel by plane from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Star and Langkawi.

•Highway
Visitors also can choose to take bus express or taxi to reach this town of Rice. Puduraya and Jalan Duta Bus Station provides a number of bus services to visitors to go Alor Star.

•Railway
Railway service are available from Kuala Lumpur or Butterworth to Kedah.

•Port
Tourists are able to take the boat service to Langkawi from Port of Kuala Kedah , Port of Perlis or Port of Penang.
