Kelantan



                                      

Kelantan is positioned in the north-east Peninsular Malaysia. The capital is Kota Bharu. It is bordered by Thailand to the north, Perak to the west, Terengganu to the east, Pahang to the south.

Kelantan is the agricultural state in Malaysia, also the cradle of Malay culture. Kelantan is home to some of the most ancient archaeological discoveries in Malaysia ,including several prehistoric monuments. The rustic fishing village and the casuarina-line beaches landscape be the most attractive character of Kelantan. Many visitor it's, Visitors are fascinated by its thousands years of traditional art heritage, customs and the lifestyle. Malay kite which known as Wau , Malay Traditional performance- Wayang Kulit, top spinning which known as Gasing. Kelantan is a very unique tourist destination because of its rich cultural heritage, beautiful beaches, ornate handicrafts and exquisite wood carvings.

Women play an important role in Kelantan's economy. Handicrafts such as Kelantan silver, baskets and cloth clothing fabric, etc which produced by women are the best handicrafts in domestic. Kelantan people seem prefer larger things, like each of their production are "oversized", for example: Kite (Wau), top spinning (Gasing), the Malay drums (Rebana Ubi) and so on.


Population and Area

According to the 2010 survey figures, Kelantan's population of about 1,670,500 people. The main race is the Kelantan Malays accounted for 94.6%, while Chinese accounted for only 3.3%. Kota Bharu is the capital of Kelantan, the other major towns include: Bachok, Brazil, Pasir Puteh, Tanah Merah, Tumpat and Gua Musang. Kelantan has a total area 14,922 sq kilometers.


Local Cuisine and Products

1. Nasi Kerabu - a blue-rice, with shredded coconut, bean sprouts, herbs and fish.

3.Nasi Dagang - yellow rice, cucumber, fried chicken or fish, vegetables and shrimp cakes, then topped with fish sauce or chicken.
4.Ayam percik - chicken tucked into bamboo and grilled over charcoal, then apply satay sauce onto the chicken.
5.Budu
6.Nasi Berlauk - rice served with fish or chicken and vegetables cooked with tumeric and galangal infused yellow gravy.


Tourist Attractions

1. Moonlight Beach
Moonlight Beach formerly known as "Love Beach". This beach also is the most famous beach at Kelantan which 10 km from Kota Bharu. This beach are famous of its stretches of golden beaches, clear waters and the swaying coconut trees along the beach. The scenery was pleasant.

2. Waterfalls
Waterfalls inside the tropical rain forest at Kelantan is the best location for visitors to explore the wonder of nature. Many waterfalls located at Pasir Puteh, which Jeram Pasu waterfalls and Jeram lenang Falls are the favorite of visitors. Lata Beringin waterfall is the highest waterfall in Malaysia.

3. Reclining Buddha Temple- Wat Photivihan
The longest statue of a reclining Buddha in Southeast Asia can be found in Wat Photivihan, in Tumpat. This Reclining Buddha is 41.2 meters long, 10.7 meters high. This temple is very popular with pilgrims and devotees.

4. Malay fishing village
Pasir Putih Fishing Village and Kuala Besar Malay Fishing Village which positioned 15 km from Kota Bharu is a typical fishing village. You can see the colourful painted fishing boats moored on the shore around 2.30pm every day. (fishermen harvest with a full boat on the beach celebrating the harvest.) Transportation

•Flight
Malaysia Airlines offers daily round-trip flight service from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bahru.

•Land
The distance between Kota Bahru and Kuala Terengganu around 168 miles, Kota Bahru also located around 474 miles from Kuantan and 370 miles from Kuala Lumpur. Bus express and Taxi service to Kota Bahru are available at Kuala Lumpur,Butterworth, Kuantan, Terengganu, Ipoh and Alor Star as well.Meanwhile, there have buses and taxis service provided at Kota Bahru for sending visitors to other towns within the state. In Kota Bahru City, tricycle is also a convenient and inexpensive transport.

•Railway
Visitors can take train at Wakaf Bharu and Sungai Golok train station. There will be at least one train a day from here to Kuala Lipis, Jerantut and Kuala Lumpur.
